Waiting To Go To The Dentist Only When You Have A Problem

Julie Valentine DDS Debunks Dental Myths:

Most adults have plenty of opinions about oral health care. Yet a surprising number of them are based on myths and even on outdated facts that have been disproved since you last gave them a thought.

MYTH: Only go to the dentist if you have a problem.
FACT: Waiting until you have a painful problem can damage your oral and overall health, as well as result in increased care costs, as simple problems become more complex. Regular checkups and preventive dentistry are the best strategy… leading to a more fulfilling life … no matter how old you are.

Cosmetic Dentistry For Everyone

Julie Valentine DDS Debunks Dental Myths:

Most adults have plenty of opinions about oral health care. Yet a surprising number of them are based on myths and even on outdated facts that have been disproved since you last gave them a thought.

MYTH: Cosmetic Dentistry is only for the rich and famous.
FACT: Modern cosmetic dentistry is more accessible and more effective than ever before. Nine out of ten adults consider an attractive smile an important social asset, and they are putting their money where their mouth is, no pun intended. Pain Relief In Teeth

Julie Valentine DDS Debunks Dental Myths:

Most adults have plenty of opinions about oral health care. Yet a surprising number of them are based on myths and even on outdated facts that have been disproved since you last gave them a thought.

MYTH: Pain relief does not mean problem free.
FACT: Do not make up your own oral remedies without consulting a dentist. Pain is a sign that your teeth or gums need treatment and home remedies and over-the-counter medicines can temporarily mask the symptom while the pain/problem may worsen.

What Does It Mean When My Gums Bleed?

Julie Valentine DDS Debunks Dental Myths:

Most adults have plenty of opinions about oral health care. Yet a surprising number of them are based on myths and even on outdated facts that have been disproved since you last gave them a thought.

MYTH: If you bleed when you floss you have gum disease.
FACT: Gums can bleed when they are irritated. If you floss regularly, a little bleeding may mean you are being too aggressive, or have skipped a few days of flossing. Bleeding that continues despite regular flossing may indicate gum disease and should be checked by a dentist.

Do You Need To Floss If You Brush?

Julie Valentine DDS Debunks Dental Myths:

Most adults have plenty of opinions about oral health care. Yet a surprising number of them are based on myths and even on outdated facts that have been disproved since you last gave them a thought.

MYTH: If you brush you do not need to floss.
FACT: No matter which toothbrush you use an electric or manual, you physically can NEVER reach between your teeth with a toothbrush alone. So if you brush and do not floss, you are not cleaning one important surface of your teeth thus predisposing you to decay and gum disease. As brushing only removes plaque from the surface of a tooth. Bacteria must be removed from between the teeth and below the gumline, something only floss can do.
